It's funny that so much has been said about Ruiz' holding. I must admit that I have not been able to win when betting against Ruiz in any fashion. In at least 3 bouts, where I bet against Ruiz in some way (including his most recent bout against Golota), I have either lost or not won money.
But the holding is something that I never really paid much attention to. I will observe more closely for the Toney fight. But then again, after all that's been said about it, I can't help but notice now.
This is certainly a very intriguing matchup. One where you just have a very difficult time predicting who will have the edge. Both fighters have styles that suit them very well in the ring. Both fighters have been able to do what most thought they could not do. And both are very capable. Some may not like Ruiz' style, but it has made him very successful.
I am really looking forward to this fight and many others down the road. Matchups that are just very difficult to predict with at least one exciting fighter. We have in addition to Ruiz/Toney, Margarito/Cintron, Tzyu/Hatton, Corrales/Castillo, Wright/Trinidad and Mayweather/Gatti.
The above matchups, with the exception of Mayweather/Gatti, can go either way IMO. And this is the best lineup of back-to-back matchups I have seen in a long while. We shall be entertained (barring injuries and postponements) for a long time.
This is pretty much a post where I show my appreciation for this moment in boxing. I think boxing is back in really good form. People can talk about blackeyes in boxing, but I say boxing has regained its stature. We now have an entertaining matchup almost every weekend to watch, thanks to HBO and Showtime. And now ESPN has stepped it up a notch by offering PPV at a reasonable price. Yes...I say reasonable after the garbage that was sold over the weekend for $40.00. I knew that would not be entertaining or worth any PPV dollars. I really hope that didn't do very well. Is Barrera too good now to fight without outside of a PPV card.
One more thing I would like to get off my chest. Unbelievably, there is talk about a Morales/Barrera fight for the 4th time. I am actually tired of seeing these guys go at it. I had no interest in the third fight and did not order it. It basically comes down to this...I am all about getting up for fights that are somewhat unpredictable. With Barrera/Morales, we all know what's going to happen. Much more of the same. Why spend more money to see these guys fight? Will there be any suspense if they sign to do it again? I don't think so.
